Traditions and Folklore in Slovakia


Slovakia has plenty of cultural traditions and customs. They are very interesting and at the same time distinctive and the people are often proud to pass the traditions down from one generation to the other. That is why many fork artists and kept representing the Slovakia traditions up to date.

History
In every district in Slovakia, they would have there unique costumes. They also had there own dialect and customs to follow. The folk songs were formed in such a way that they are swift and rhythmical and thus ideal for dancing. The songs narrate about love, natural beauties and also happiness. 


The Folk Festivals
There is an annual festival that is known on Slovakia and abroad that always takes place at Pol’ana Mountain. The international festival involves folk music, dance and songs that is meant for the Slovaks and also the people living abroad. At the festivals, there are many traditional handicraft items that are sold. There is the Podrohac Folk Festival that is always organized in the Museum of Orava Village Zuberec. The traditional handicraft fair is also organized on that day. In Vychodna, there is held an international folk festival in summer for the purpose of discovering the beauty of traditional folk culture and customs. The Slovakia folk festivals always start from Friday and goes on until Sunday during summer.

Traditional Slovak Handicraft
The tradition of the Slovaks that they have held for long is in manufacturing handicraft products. There are many and very good woodcutters, potters, weavers and blacksmiths. They make things such as wicker products, bobbin and point laces, jewelry, leather products and also embroideries. The Slovak villages in traditional times were always decorated with wooden houses. You can get to see the Slovak wooden village at the open-air museums. The best tradition of all in Slovakia is the making and decorating of the gingerbreads.

There is a difference in every festival in Slovakia. They have there own charm and a distinctive atmosphere. Even with the differences, the whole region always gets involved in the festivals and you can feel the folklore activities at every place you get.
